Wayward Pines Memories
MEMORIES AND MEMORY PLOTTING HAVE BEEN MOVED HERE. GONNA REVAMP THIS PART OF THE PROFILE LATER.

Canon Memories
As of 3/1/17, Jefferson's canon memories consist of a mish-mash of some events he experienced as a portal jumper, some from when he was trapped in Wonderland and going mad, and a load of fake Storybrooke memories that Regina cursed him with. Unfortunately, unlike in canon, he's currently lacking all knowledge of the Dark Curse, itself, meaning Jefferson is left with bits of real memories (the Enchanted Forest, Wonderland, portal jumping), Curse memories (that second, false life in his head that he mentions in a few episodes), and Wayward Pines memories (also false), and he can't distinguish which among them are real and which aren't. He has, however, just remembered that he used to be called the Mad Hatter!

Currently, he believes both his Wayward Pines memories and his Curse memories must be true, and he can't distinguish them very well from each other, which means he may believe some contradictory things about himself. IN A BITTER TWIST OF FATE: he's pretty sure all of his ACTUAL, REAL memories are delusions.

At this time, he doesn't remember anything about Grace, specifically, though he's pretty sure he had a daughter (whose name or face or age he can't place), and he knows that if she ever existed, she was lost a long time ago.

When Jefferson arrived in Wayward Pines (2/1/17), he could only remember the following, to start:
  • He has a daughter who's no longer in his life (though he won't know how or why).
  • He once lost his head to an executioner's ax.
  • He had a nervous breakdown that sent him from his career in NYC to the family home in Maine. (Curse Memory)
  • He comes from a wealthy family. (Curse Memory)
  • He used to have tea parties with a March Hare and a Dormouse.

Appearance & Fashion
For starters, Jefferson has a pretty nasty scar that circles his neck, almost like he was once decapitated or something. (He was, in fact, decapitated. Good thing it didn't stick.) He does keep it covered with a scarf anytime he's in public, but there are certainly times when he can be seen without it.

Despite the fact that he's trapped in the 90s, Jefferson hasn't bothered to change the way he dresses. It helps that his look's a bit unusual and anachronistic no matter when or where he is, anyway. And he can sew and tailor to his heart's content, so he won't be stuck in any ill-fitting 90s horrorshow.

So, he probably stands out a bit from the locals, looking like a fancy man in the middle of small town Idaho. He'll almost always be seen wearing at least a fitted, patterned dress shirt and a differently-patterned scarf, and dark, tailored trousers. Beyond that, he's usually got on a waistcoat and either a suit jacket or a long overcoat. Most of the time, he wears dark colors with a splash of color (usually the scarf). And he pretty much always wears a couple of tacky looking rings.

Some examples: BEAUTIFUL PATTERNS! BEAUTIFUL WAISTCOAT! BEAUTIFUL OVERCOAT! lbr he's probably been dressing like this since the Dark Curse dumped him into the 80s, anyway. HE HASN'T CHANGED HIS STYLE IN 28 YEARS, AND HE'S NOT CHANGING NOW.

Assorted Headcanon
Some headcanon regarding his curse memories. None of these actually happened to him, but they're among the memories in his head that have been plaguing him for 28 years. They feel real, though he knows they aren't.
  • He's not from Storybrooke. He had a well-paying, high-powered job in NYC, likely in something ridiculously stressful like PR.
  • He comes from a wealthy family-- old money wealthy.
  • He has a history of mental health problems.
  • He suffered from some sort of breakdown or episode in NYC that cost him his job and resulted in him being sent to a psych ER, followed by 72 hours of inpatient care.
  • His mansion in Storybrooke is a family home, but not where he grew up. He's there to recover in a small-town, low-stress environment.
  • He's largely estranged from his family, despite his parents' financial support. Emotional support is nonexistent.
  • He can barely remember life before Storybrooke, beyond what's stated here.
