[ There was a 'hipster' district of Eudio, where people like him tended to stick out. He might have been the 'thing' in the 1970s britpunk scene, but that was too mainstream now, as was the designer brand makeup he wore.

The bars were small and uncrowded, as being packed would mean the place was instantly out-of-style, sometimes that pretentious shite worked to his advantage. He'd shot the cutie the location, then went ahead and sprawled out on a booth. And by sprawl, we mean legs up on the seat, one arm behind his head, the other on the table and holding his pint, eyes closed as he waited. ]

Complicated can sometimes be interesting in the right circumstances.

Well, there are all sorts of customs and expectations, but do you always do what's expected of you?

[ Having isolated himself within a giant mansion for nearly three decades, Jefferson's pretty relieved to find that the bar Vex wanted to meet at wasn't packed with people. He's pretty sure that if he walked in to find a big crowd to weave through, he'd instantly turn around and go back home. He wasn't always like this, of course-- once upon a time (ha), he'd been quite sociable. But he hasn't really had any opportunities to come out of his shell since the curse.

This is one of his first chances, really. And once he approaches the booths towards the back of the bar, he spots Vex fairly quickly. And the way he's dressed sort of reminds Jefferson of better days-- there are elements of styles he favored, or that he'd at least seen in other worlds he'd visited. Not like Storybrooke, where everyone was so drably down-to-earth. For his part, Jefferson probably appears overdressed, though really, the dress shirt, the waistcoat, the scarf, it's all everyday wear for him. He starts to shrug off his coat, offering a smile, though there's a hint of apprehension in it. Charm's easy enough to turn on when he's got an ulterior motive, but as he doesn't have one right now, he's just a bit... uneasy, being out in public. ]

You weren't waiting long, I hope.

Ooh! 'ello crumpet. You're worth the wait.

[ Vex went from lazy to perky instantaneously. He sat up, swiveled smoothly in his seat to face the other man, and offered him a wicked-looking crooked smile and a salacious wink. Everything about him matched that working-class London accent of his, untamed and unpolished. Yet very fashionable! So, naturally, his dark eyes went down to rake over Jefferson's choice of threads with a low whistle. ]

Nice. Bit warm for autumn, yeah? Still, I like it. Got a tailor?

[ He waved at the bartender to bring them another pint for Jefferson, which was set in front of him shortly. ]

[ There's something familiar in Vex's demeanor; it calls to mind the shady sorts of characters he used to do business with back in his thieving and portal jumping days. And so Jefferson relaxes, his smile growing more easygoing as he slides into the booth. ]

Perhaps, but I always run a little cold. [ And he shakes his head. ] No tailor. I do any alterations myself.

[ As the bartender sets a pint down in front of him, Jefferson eyes Vex, taking his appearance in with both approval and appreciation. ]

Not a lot of people were all that stylish back in Storybrooke. Where I'm... [ Not from, really. ] Where I'd been living. Your look is refreshing.

I try not to make a habit of doing what's expected.

[ Unless what's expected is for him to exhibit POOR DECISION-MAKING SKILLS. In which case he always does what's expected. ]

And yourself?

Do ya? Good with your hands then, yeah? [ Was everything an innuendo? Sure! He chuckled as he leaned back in his seat, took a swallow from his glass, then licked his lips. ]

Like it? Enjoy the view, love. You can stare all you want. [ He practically blossomed under attention. ] I've never heard of Storybrooke, what is that, a city? Sounds like something out of a kid's book.

Though the tea almost sways his decision. ]

[ Aw, come on, Mr. Logical, HAVE SOME TEA WITH THE MAD HATTER. ]

[ There's a smile, and he laughs a little at the innuendo. ] I used to make a living with them. Never had any complaints. [ Take that however you'd like, Vex! ]

[ Still smiling, he takes a sip of his drink. But when Vex asks about Storybrooke, that's when Jefferson's usual gloom falls over him again. ] It's a town in Maine. [ There's an agitated twitch in his fingers, and he drums them on the table sharply. ] Where I've been trapped. Where everyone's been trapped.

[ Jefferson, you're never going to get any cuddling if you keep going from friendly to gloomy in the span of ten seconds. ]

[ Anybody who doesn't roll their eyes at his innuendo is a winner in Vex's book. ]

Maine? What, in the States? Bugger me. So the higher-ups here were able to pull you out of that, eh? So what are you lot then? Sex slaves to some power-crazed lobster fae?

[ How can anybody be gloomy when Vex comes up with crazy shit like that? ]

[ Jefferson's caught off guard by the remark enough to actually let out a real laugh. Sure, there's a little hint of crazy in his voice, but it definitely beats the doom and gloom. He didn't realize just how badly he needed this, some actual humor in his life. ]

God. No, I don't even want to think about servicing her like--

[ He laughs again, shaking his head. Though, truth be told, Regina's a beautiful woman. Rotten to her core, but beautiful. It's really just his hatred of her that makes the thought so unpleasant. ]

Nothing quite so exciting as that. She just made everyone... boring. Mundane. Human. No more magic, no more happy endings. Everyone living the same day, over and over again, nothing changing. Except for-- [ He gestures to himself, then takes another drink. ]

I'd prefer a lobster fae to the evil queen.

[gundogs]

Neither do I. I don't like being predictable.

That's awful! I can't even imagine a world where we're all human. [ He even shuddered for emphasis. Not that he was completely in love with his fellow fae or anything, but variety was the spice of life! ]

I mean, sure, Eudio's not the most exciting place, but at least there's magic. And definitely happy endings. [ He gave a wink before making a brief 'jerk off' motion with his hand. You know, that sort of happy ending. ]

What were you then? Before you were human.

Oh, I'm human. Always have been. But not everyone was. The town shrink used to be a cricket. [ JIMINY CRICKET, actually. ] I was just... I used to be a portal jumper. Traveled to different magical worlds, worlds others couldn't get to, and brought back treasures and trinkets-- for a price. [ And he made sooo many enemies along the way.

He takes a long drink, then fixes Vex with another intrigued look. ]

But what about you? What sets mesmers apart from other fae?

Well, I'm the last of my kind which sets me apart right there. A mesmer has the power to control your body. It doesn't work the same way here in Eudio, since they're all about 'consent' and all that shite. If you give me permission, I show you. I promise, it doesn't hurt. Unless you want it to. [ Wink. ]

[ Jefferson's heard about others having doppelgangers, but this is his first time seeing a man who's practically his own twin. Though he's seen and experienced a lot of strange things, it's still somewhat... eerie. But he's way too curious to swipe the X. ]

Doesn't ring any bells. But admittedly, my knowledge of music pre-1960 is lacking.

And while now I obviously want to know what impression you're trying to give off - that's four words. It was just the first one. I met a few other mes in my time here but none of us've had kids before.

[ And, in response to that wink, Jefferson blinks a few times, trying to imagine how it could be fun to give up control of one's body like that. He's spent so many years feeling utterly helpless that he's pretty much certain he couldn't tolerate being unable to even control his own body. In his youth, however, that would've seemed adventurous. But then, he was something of a thrillseeker back then.

Still, it's an intriguing thought. ]

I've never met anyone who could do that. [ Not even Rumplestiltskin, he's sure. ] Do people know, when you use your magic? Or do you control the mind, too?
